Para-siting: Podcast for Introverts

Podcast for Introverts is  a series of solo performances, that then transformed into an actual podcast. Podcast for Introverts is a poetic guide to living a reflective life in our media-saturated world; the performance takes the form of an ironic self-help manual. Each episode is an invitation and conversation about a personal object and its associated stories.

At W139, Esther Mugambi will invite people to join her at W139 with an object and share its associated stories for her archive. In return for this gift of sharing she will shape a relational memory, recording sounds and stories using a tape loop machine. Looking to connect with the neighbourhood, Mugambi will write about these things that are close to the heart of the neighbourhood residents, found items of value, stored in jacket pockets, that fit in the palm of the hand…

Esther Mugambi is a performance artist and writer based in Amsterdam. Her work crosses boundaries between theatre and sound art.  She is passionate about interacting with audiences and communities to inspire embodied connection in an increasingly tech-controlled world. She began Podcast for Introverts as a podcast series, with each episode  an audio letter to an individual, based on a conversation about an object and its stories: #how to sit in the dark, #how to see your hands. In response to a digital world that has left us with a poor attention span, the podcast provides time for silence, challenges us to step back in order to see anew.
