Opening Heaving Room

Join us for the opening of our new exhibition, Heaving Room, initiated by Rustan Söderling. Taking place during Amsterdam Art Week, this special occasion will feature a performance by sound artist André Avelãs, who will activate the architecture of the exhibition.

Including works by Michelle Chang Qin, Jame St Findlay, Rosa Klerkx, Bin Koh, John Smith, Rustan Söderling, Dan Walwin, and Andoni Zamora, the group explores improvised forms of connection, support, and kinship in a society where shared structures seem to be shifting or unraveling.

Through video works, sculptures, an installation, and a series of digital drawings, the exhibition maps personal and provisional ways of responding to this unstable reality. It shows unusual forms of cataloguing, personal rituals, and the unintentional formations of communities.

André Avelãs is a sound artist who lives and works in Amsterdam. His works –performances, sculpture, installations, and recordings– explore the ways in which sound is produced, and how sound creates meaning in relation to space and the conditions under which it is heard. Central to his practice is a focus on sound not as a carrier of content, but as a malleable material that shifts and changes in relation to the methods and machines through which it is generated, reproduced and experienced.
