{"id":42675,"date":"2026-06-08T11:31:31","date_gmt":"2026-06-08T09:31:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/w139.nl\/event\/the-nature-of-remembering\/"},"modified":"2026-06-24T18:24:40","modified_gmt":"2026-06-24T16:24:40","slug":"the-nature-of-remembering","status":"publish","type":"tribe_events","link":"https:\/\/w139.nl\/en\/event\/the-nature-of-remembering\/","title":{"rendered":"The Nature of Remembering"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n<p>Initiated by artist Lawil Karama in conversation with historian Megan Hoetger, <em>The Nature of Remembering<\/em> is a group exhibition featuring multimedia research projects that move between interrogation of normative memory politics and co-experimentation with environmental and more-than-human bodies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The exhibition title carries in it two meanings: on the one hand, <em>nature<\/em> is evoked, drawing focus to actants, actors, and animacies beyond and beside the human, who witness, participate in, index, recollect, foretell, and haunt historical time. On the other hand, the idiomatic expression <em>the nature of<\/em> is taken up as a provocation, pushing against pervasive ideological and violently enforced notions of remembering and of commemorating that assume there to be essential characteristics of either.<br><br>Running through all projects is a commitment to practices of frictioning: engaging technologies against their colonial grain, and lingering in the affectively, ancestrally, archivally, and forensically intertwined conditions of lived experience and knowledge production.
